Here's my recipe, if you'd like to join in the festivities.
This is a kid friendly recipe. My toddler helps out with the first three steps, but older children could assist with all the steps. What fun to make their own monster faces!
Monster Pikelets
On your marks...
1 3/4 cups of self-raising flour
1/4 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
2 eggs
1 1/4 cups milk
1/3 cup castor sugar
Faces
Melting chocolate
Piping bag and nozzle
Go...
- Sift the flour and bicarbonate of soda into a large bowl.
- Break the eggs into a large jug. Add the milk and the sugar and beat with a fork until mixed together.
- Make a hole in the middle of your flour and gradually whisk the milk mixture into the flour.
- Cover the bowl and let mixture rest in the fridge for 30 minutes. While it is resting melt your chocolate in your prefered way (we like using the microwave). Pour melted chocolate into the piping bag, keeping your finger over the nozzle. Put to the side.
- Put some butter into a frying pan and heat over a medium temperature.
- Spoon large tablespoons of batter into the pan, leaving a little bit of space between them.
- Make your monster faces using the piping bag of chocolate over the wet batter.
- After two minutes flip each pikelet and cook until it is lightly browned.
- Take hotcakes out of the pan and place on a serving plate.
These are delicious when hot but are a yummy treat when cold too! (Got to love baking ahead!)

Haha! I thought the pikelets were going to be HUGE when I read the title. I must admit I was starting to question my definition of pikelets vs pancakes.
ReplyDeleteBut, no. You meant LITERALLY!
My boys would love these. What 4 and 6 year old boy wouldn't? ღ
