Jigsaw Puzzles With Toddlers

I bought this Dinosaur Puzzle about ten years ago for my teen. It is beautifully coloured with lovely bright colours and there are details within the picture that encourage your child's ever expanding vocabulary! But what I love the most about this jigsaw (and so do the kids!) is...
Dinosaur Puzzle
...there are empty spaces shaped like dinosaurs...
Dinosaur Puzzle
...that you fill with the appropriate shaped dinosaur!

The benefits of having jigsaw puzzles in your toy selection.
  • Labeling the objects/animals in the picture develops vocabularly.
  • Between the age of 2 - 5 children live within their bodies not their heads. I love this puzzle because it is large, the pieces are large and some of the pieces take on the shape of a dinosaur. This puzzle requires my children to move about placing the pieces. So they are developing problem solving skills and learning about how shapes fit together whilst engaged in movement!
  • With this age group I need to be involved in the task also. For this jigsaw puzzle I set up the puzzle border leaving only the dinosaur shapes to be filled by my children.
  • After completing the puzzle several times and discussing the illustrations, Chook has memorised where some of the border pieces go and is beginning to assist me in making the border.

The puzzle is by Galt Toys. I have bought a few things from their range over the years and have always been impressed by their quality (just check out this Dinosaur Puzzle!). So when I was approached by Galt to have them do a guest post for Triple T Mum I was thrilled! Look out for their post on puppets right here on Triple T Mum.
