I blew up five balloons. Fastened them together into a cluster and then tied the cluster to a long piece of string. We have hooks in our living room ceiling (left over from Jolly Jumpers!) so I tied the string to the hook at a distance from the floor that would encourage standing.
All the children were immediately drawn to it. As a side note: when there's an older child in the house, set the activity up while the younger ones are sleeping and let the older child have at it! Strawberry and Ooffa ended up getting bowled over a few times with Chook's enthusiasm. He loved running through them!
Chook loves this activity!
Ooffa thinks it is awesome.
Strawberry is happy to cheer everyone else along!
Edited 14 April 2012: When using balloons with babies and young children, please ensure that their play is supervised. Please don't allow them to 'mouth' the balloons and immediatly clear any fragments of popped balloons away. You can make or purchase fabric balloon covers (of which I have several). I am more than happy to post about these covers if anyone is interested in seeing them!

Looks fun! I'm a big sister to twins, who are 13-year-old uncles to my 3-year-old.
ReplyDeleteWow! How lucky is your child to have two young uncles to play with? I know my 13 year old just adores his 2 and half old brother. Great playmates but it does get wild at times!
DeleteBalloons are a great active activity for this age. My girls would love this.

Hope you get a chance to do this. Simple fun!
DeleteBrilliant - you just can't go wrong with balloons - they are such fun! A jewelled rose mum also came up with a fab idea of balloons in the bath with coloured water in them that they can pop - i shall try to find you the link as you will love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing on Family Frolics.

Thank you Kerry. Sounds like fun!
DeleteLike this. Here is another similar idea with a video. I hung a cluster of balloons but attached paper towel tubes as well. This allows the kids to hit one at a time and they do not get all twisted together. You can view it here - http://yourtherapysource.blogspot.com/2010/03/video-activity-idea-kid-boxing.html
ReplyDeleteThank you! The tubes are a great idea. The weight seems to keep them in play longer.
ReplyDeleteLove ballon play! My son enjoys throwing a left-over birthday balloon around with mom and dad! Thanks for linking up with the Get Kids Moving Link Up, and linking back! I shared you post on Twitter @mearth, Facebook, Google Plus, and Pinterest!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
